You need to make sure that you correctly replace the faulty water pump in your Chevy Silverado to keep the engine running smoothly. The steps to change the water pump are:
- Disconnect the negative battery cables and drain the coolant from the radiator.. Remove the fan shroud while the coolant is draining.
- Remove the serpentine belt and water pump hoses, which are attached to the water pump.
- Loosen and remove the nuts on the water pump and fan.; be careful not to damage the radiator while doing this.
- Remove the fan from the water pump using a wrench on the fan nut and a strap wrench on the pulley.
- Connect the thermostat with its corresponding housing on the new water pump. Install the fan on the new pump and lightly tighten the bolts.
- Clean the water pump fitting surface on the block with a kitchen sponge and scraper, and install the new water pump into the Chevy Silverado, tightening the nuts. Then connect all the hoses back to the pump.
- Again, install all the components in the same order that you removed them.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable connection and fill the system with new coolant. Start the engine and check for leaks when you reach normal operating temperatures.
