- Park the Ford Focus to allow room to place the engine lifter in front of the engine. Use a wrench to remove the hinge bolts on the inside of the hood and remove the hood. Remove the negative cable from the battery.
- Drain the radiator fluid into a bucket and remove the hoses connecting the radiator to the engine. using a screwdriver. Cut the hoses if they don’t come off. Remove the fan, tensioner pulley, and alternator. Remove the set screw from all of these components using a ratchet set. Remove fuel lines and intake air supply.
- Empty the radiator fluid into a bucket and remove the hoses connecting the radiator to the engine using a screwdriver.
- Loosen the power steering pump with the ratchet set.. Remove the air conditioning compressor and power steering pump. Loosen the electrical wires from the motor and remove them. Remove the exhaust manifold by using the ratchet set and a crescent wrench to remove the bolts from where the engine is connected to the transmission.
- Raise the car with a jack and place jack stands on the support rails to prevent the car from falling on you. Slide under the Ford Focus and remove the connectors from the starter tube and the exhaust tube using the ratchet set to remove the bolts that connect them to the engine. Next you must remove the transmission connections on the crossmember using the pliers to hold the nut and the ratchet set to unscrew the screw.
- Jack up the car and place jack stands on the support rails to prevent the car from falling on you.
- Slide under the Ford Focus and remove the connectors from the starter and exhaust pipe using the ratchet set to remove the bolts that connect them to the engine.
- Remove the bolts from the engine mounts that connect the engine to the frame using the ratchet set. Remove the jack stands and lower the car. Attach a heavy chain to the engine lifter and then to both sides of the engine with a bolt. Pull the engine out of the car carefully. Make sure you don’t scratch the Ford Focus while pulling the engine out of the car.
