How to change the fuel filter on a Toyota Corolla?
Regardless of your car model, follow these steps to change the fuel filter on a Toyota Corolla:
1- Park your Corolla well
You should park your car in a safe place and then try to relieve pressure from the fuel system. Remove the rear seat and unscrew the floor service cover mounting bolts, with a screwdriver; or remove the sealing tape, depending on the particular car model.
Once you remove the cover, you will see the fuel pump assembly mounted to the gas tank.
2- Disconnect the fuel pump connector-
Now you need to disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector from the fuel pump assembly. Then start the engine and let it run until it stops; then disconnect the black negative battery cable and remove the filler cap from the gas tank.
3- Uninstall the electrical connector of the vapor pressure sensor.
Now you must disconnect the electrical connector of the vapor pressure sensor of the fuel pump, this if the model of your Corolla is equipped with one; then pull the clip off the fuel line with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Now remove the fuel line from the fuel pump assembly.
4- Remove the fuel vent pipe.
Remove the fuel vent line by pressing the tabs on the retainer and pulling the line out of the assembly. If you have a 2002, 2003, or 2004 Toyota Corolla, you need to unscrew the retaining ring mounting screws with a Phillips screwdriver; if not then use a fuel lock nut wrench to remove the ring.
5- Lift the fuel pump assembly.
Now you need to lift the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank and remove the O-ring that sits between the assembly and the gas tank. Then remove the fuel filter from the assembly and install the new one.
6- Install a new O-ring and place the assembly.
Put on a new O-ring and place the fuel pump assembly in its respective place. Now screw on the retaining ring or use the fuel lock nut wrench. If you’re using the wrench, line up the notched mark on the tank with the tab on the mounting surface of the fuel pump assembly.
Try to line up the retaining ring mark with the above marks and turn the ring 2 full turns using the fuel lock nut wrench.
7- Put the ventilation duct in its place.
Push the vent into its connector until the latch snaps into place; then install the fuel line and secure it with the clip; Plug in the fuel pump vapor pressure sensor electrical connector and the fuel pump electrical connector.
8- Connect the battery.
Reconnect the black negative battery cable and install the fuel tank filler cap. Start the engine and check for any leaks; then turn off the engine and put the fuel pump assembly service cap back in place. Install the mounting bolts or seal them with butyl tape and reposition the rear seat.

How to change the fuel filter on a Toyota Corolla?

4- Remove the fuel vent pipe.
Remove the fuel vent line by pressing the tabs on the retainer and pulling the line out of the assembly. If you have a 2002, 2003, or 2004 Toyota Corolla, you need to unscrew the retaining ring mounting screws with a Phillips screwdriver; if not then use a fuel lock nut wrench to remove the ring.
5- Lift the fuel pump assembly.
Now you need to lift the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank and remove the O-ring that sits between the assembly and the gas tank. Then remove the fuel filter from the assembly and install the new one.
6- Install a new O-ring and place the assembly.
Put on a new O-ring and place the fuel pump assembly in its respective place. Now screw on the retaining ring or use the fuel lock nut wrench. If you’re using the wrench, line up the notched mark on the tank with the tab on the mounting surface of the fuel pump assembly.
Try to line up the retaining ring mark with the above marks and turn the ring 2 full turns using the fuel lock nut wrench.
7- Put the ventilation duct in its place.
Push the vent into its connector until the latch snaps into place; then install the fuel line and secure it with the clip; Plug in the fuel pump vapor pressure sensor electrical connector and the fuel pump electrical connector.
8- Connect the battery.
Reconnect the black negative battery cable and install the fuel tank filler cap. Start the engine and check for any leaks; then turn off the engine and put the fuel pump assembly service cap back in place. Install the mounting bolts or seal them with butyl tape and reposition the rear seat.
