The steps to follow to replace the fuel filter on a 2000 Suzuki Vitara vehicle are as follows:

Paso 1:

You need to Open the hood of the Vitara and attach the hood strut. Disconnect the negative battery cable with a ratchet and socket. Remove the pressure connection cap from the fuel pressure connection at the top of the fuel rail.

Wrap the tip of a screwdriver in a rag and insert the screwdriver into the center of the port. Press the pin in the center of the pressure port to release fuel pressure in the fuel system. Install the cap on the pressure port when the fuel pressure has been released.

Paso 2:

Move to the back of the Vitara. Raise the rear with a jack. Place the jack stands under the rear axle housing, at both ends near the rear of the rear wheels. Lower the Vitara onto the climbing shoes. Lie under the rear bumper and get into position to access the fuel filter.

The fuel filter is located near the front passenger side of the fuel tank and is mounted to the frame on a strap-type bracket.

Paso 3:

Place your drain pan under the fuel filter line that is furthest and pointing away from you. Do not put your body or face in the path of the fuel filter line that you are going to remove first; there is residual fuel in the line and filter.

Remove the hose clamp from the fuel filter line, using pliers to pinch the clamp open. Remove the fuel filter line from the main fuel line with one hand while holding the fuel line with the other hand. Repeat this step to remove the second filter line.

Paso 4:

Remove the single mounting bolt from the fuel filter strap bracket with a ratchet and socket. Remove the old filter and bracket. Slide the filter out of the bracket and place the old filter in your drain pan.

Paso 5:

Slide the new filter into the bracket clamp. Install the new filter on the main lines, making sure the arrow on the filter points toward the front of the truck. Put the hose clamps in place over the filter lines with their pliers, then release them to lock the new filter in place on the main fuel lines. Install the mounting bracket and bolt and tighten the bolt with a ratchet and socket.

Paso 6:

Get out from under the Vitara and remove the drain pan from under the truck. Raise the rear of the Vitara off the jack stands, then remove the feet from under the Vitara. Lower the Suzuki to the ground.

Paso 7:

Pass in front of the Vitara. Reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten the cable with the ratchet and socket. Stand next to the driver of the Vitara.

Paso 8:

Turn the ignition key to the accessory position for five seconds without starting the Vitara. Turn it off again with the key. Repeat this process three times to prime the fuel system with fuel and pressure.

Start the Vitara and check for any signs of fuel leaks underneath. If a leak is detected, raise the Vitara backrest and check the hose and clamp connections.
